I am a product of the product
I’m Daryl Rusgal of DeeHolliday Studio.
I've always loved fashion and graphics, but I didn't think I could make money from it. So, I wanted to pursue a Business degree, thinking about financial stability. However, my mind kept wandering to designs and creations. Eventually, I took the plunge into graphic design school, and it snowballed from there—starting with a laptop, then a screen printer, a heat press, an embroidery machine, and a direct-to-garment printer. Family and friends noticed my work, turning to me for custom designs and creative projects, unintentionally making me a go-to person in my community.
For the last fifteen years, I have been immersed in color and material customization as an apparel and product designer. Growing up in the Bay Area, I’ve been highly influenced by the fashion trends, innovative technology, and the product aesthetics of sports. I’ve examined trends early on through magazines, observing crowds at sports events, and now by following the latest designers on social media. I spent much of my life feeling the textures and examining the colorways of apparel created by top name brands. I would often find myself in stores examining products I found were amazing, deconstructing them in my mind, and going home to make adjustments that would make the product even better. I’ve always had the philosophy that I could create almost anything that was on a store shelf, so I opened my own studio and channeled that curiosity into CMF and Customization Design. I now see how a product’s look, feel, and functionality fit within a company’s branding. I have a constant drive to improve things, never settling for what’s good, and always striving to make things better, making me “a product of the product.”
